The Wedding Story
|
This following story is fictional. It is not about a real wedding for which we performed. Rather, its a composite of many different ingredients of many different weddings for which we performed. Each wedding is unique and yours may or may not include the things described in this story. The bottom line, and the point of this story, is that we can help you create exactly the wedding day you've always dreamed of by including all of the things you want and eliminating all of the things you don't want. |

Prologue Julie just got engaged! She begins planning her Wedding Day by visiting several bookstores where she purchases every bridal magazine she can find. Julie hears of a Bridal Show coming up and attends. Realizing that today a great deal of information is also available on the Internet, Julie logs on to her computer in search of web sites dedicated to helping brides find everything they need. The process is underway! ACT I, Scene 1 Most often, the first item of business for Brides is finding the perfect wedding dress. Julie scours magazines and web sites, and then Julie (along with her mom and her best friend) go shopping for the perfect wedding dress. Following the dress purchase comes wedding rings, the reception venue, catering, photographer, flowers, bridesmaids dresses, tux wear, limousine service, and about a hundred other products and services. As often happens, one of the last things Julie thinks about is music for the wedding and musical entertainment for the reception. ACT I, Scene 2 Realizing that her reception is her chance to thank her family, friends, and guests for sharing her special day with her (and also for the presents they'll bring), Julie begins her search for appropriate wedding reception entertainment. Her plan includes getting married at the reception venue so she also needs music for the wedding itself. The choice of a band or a disc jockey presents itself. Being a smart bride, Julie soon becomes aware that decent bands are hard to find, are very expensive, they don't provide wedding music, and they only play music 40 minutes out of every hour. There are small ensembles who play music for weddings but aren't appropriate for wedding reception entertainment. Then there are DJs, lots and lots of DJs. Julie doesn't know any personally and how can she possibly know who's good and who's not? Do any of them do MORE than "just play music" in terms of helping to plan and coordinate a wedding and reception? ACT II, Scene 1 Julie discovers "Your DJ" Professional Entertainment Services, along with several other DJ's that look interesting. Many of the DJs offer to send out a contract for Julie to fill out and send back in with a deposit, and say, "We'll see you on your wedding day." This leaves Julie feeling hesitant and discouraged, as if all they're interested in is getting her money. Then Julie contacts "Your DJ" Professional Entertainment Services and gets something that she hasn't yet gotten -- personalized attention! ACT II, Scene 2 Discovering that "Your DJ" is a unique DJ entertainment company, a husband (Scott) and wife (Doreen) team, Julie is intrigued. Upon contacting Scott and Doreen via their web site, Julie gets a personalized email response. Feeling appreciated, Julie phones "Your DJ" and talks with Doreen. She is pleasantly surprised to find out that "Your DJ" offers a complimentary in-person consultation BEFORE any contract is signed. Doreen explains that "Your DJ" is very different from most mobile DJ companies in that they take a personal interest in every wedding they do. A long list of satisfied brides attests to the fact that "Your DJ" works with their brides from beginning to end with pre-event planning, complete event coordination, professional emceeing, non-obnoxious interaction, and great musical entertainment. They even have a second sound system for weddings done at different locations! ACT II, Scene 3 Julie schedules her in-person consultation with Scott and Doreen. At the consultation, Julie and her fiance John find that rather than a "sales job" Scott and Doreen provide an educational and informative presentation concerning how they work with the Bride and all the other wedding professionals to make her wedding day everything she's always dreamed it would be. No pressure is placed on Julie and John to sign a contract at the meeting. Within a few days, Julie and John decide that "Your DJ" is their choice for their special day. They promptly receive their contract and "Wedding Reception Questionnaire" in the mail. Because Scott and Doreen only do one wedding per date, Julie and John return the contract immediately so that nobody else gets their date. ACT II, Scene 4 Two weeks before the wedding date, Julie and John meet personally once again with Scott and Doreen again to finalize everything for their special day from beginning to end. With Scott's and Doreen's help, the "Wedding Reception Questionnaire" is completed, all requested music is lined up, all names are recorded with proper pronunciation, all interactivity is cleared, and the agenda for the wedding and reception is organized according to Julie's and John's wishes. Two days later, Doreen has transferred all information to an easy-to-understand spreadsheet agenda. Julie receives it via email for her final review and approval. ACT III, Scene 1 The big day is here! While Julie is preparing for her wedding ceremony, Scott and Doreen arrive in the "Your DJ" van approximately three hours before the event is to begin. All equipment is unloaded and brought to the sites. Sound equipment is set up. Lighting equipment is set up. Cables and cords are connected. Sound, lighting, and microphones are tested. Volume level is checked. Backup equipment, on site, is installed in the rare event of an equipment failure. Copies of the agenda are given to the venue manager, catering manager, photographer, and videographer. All systems are go at least 30 minutes before the first guests are scheduled to arrive. ACT III, Scene 2 Scott and Doreen head to the venue's restrooms to change into their formal tux wear. They return at least 15 minutes before the first guests are scheduled to arrive. Since Scott and Doreen are providing the music for Julie's wedding, Doreen starts getting everybody into place to begin. Scott starts playing the pre-wedding music Julie selected. ACT III, Scene 3 Guests are arriving and taking their seats. The wedding begins with the seating of the mothers. Next, the groom, his groomsmen and ring bearer enter, followed by the procession of bridesmaids and flower girl. The big moment has arrived! Julie's processional song begins and her father escorts her down the aisle. The ceremony proceeds, ending with the traditional pronouncement of Julie and John as husband and wife. They kiss, are introduced, and the recessional commences. Julie and John walk down the aisle as husband and wife, followed by the other members of their bridal party. Scott announces that the bridal party will remain to take pictures and everybody is invited to the reception in the grand ballroom. ACT IV, Scene 1 With their friends and guests already at the reception, Julie, John, and the rest of the bridal party arrive at the reception to begin the celebration. Now that all the stress of the ceremony is over, its time for Julie and John begin the FUN part of their wedding day! Scott and Doreen have everything in place and ready to go so that Julie and John can be guests at their own wedding reception, not having to worry about choreographing everything as it happens. Finally, Julie and John can kick back ... relax ... eat, drink, and be merry right along with all of their family, friends and guests! ACT IV, Scene 2 Doreen lines up the bridal party for the Grand Entrance. Scott invites everyone to be seated, then begins announcing each member of the bridal party, with Julie and John entering last to a standing ovation! They proceed directly to the dance floor as Scott announces that Julie and John will now dance together as husband and wife for the first time, to "At Last" by Etta James. The rest of the Bridal Party is horseshoed around the Bride and Groom on the dance floor, blowing bubbles at them as they do their First Dance, making for wonderful photographs. ACT IV, Scene 3 The First Dance concludes to another ovation, Scott introduces the person giving the blessing, and dinner begins. A pleasant background music mix of classic and standard ballads at low volume fills the air while dinner progresses. ACT V, Scene 1 With dinner concluded, it is time for the traditional festivities to begin! Doreen coordinates with the bartender to ensure that champagne is poured for the Toast to the Bride and Groom. Scott then introduces the Best Man and the Maid of Honor, who are each scheduled to do a toast, using a wireless microphone right at the Head Table. Following the toasts, Julie and John take the microphone to welcome everybody and thank them for sharing their special day with them. ACT V, Scene 2 As dinner draws to a close, its time to begin the traditional activities by giving away the floral centerpieces at each table. Scott and Doreen do a fun interactive skit that "breaks the ice" and gets everybody involved and laughing. Next, Scott announces that it's time for the traditional Bride and Father dance, invites Julie to escort her dad to the dance floor and announces the song that they have selected, "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle. When the Bride and Father Dance concludes, Scott invites John to escort his mom to the dance floor for the Groom and Mother Dance, announcing the song they have selected, "The Wonder of You" by Elvis Presley. ACT V, Scene 3 Julie and John added two additional special dances. The first is a Bridal Party Dance, where all members of the Bridal Party are honored. Scott invites the entire bridal party to the dance floor, announcing the selected song, "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King. ACT V, Scene 4 The second special dance is one that Scott and Doreen do at most of their weddings; it's called the Anniversary Dance, and involves all of the married couples at the wedding, with the goal of finding the couple married the longest. Scott invites all the married couples to the dance floor, announcing the selected song, "Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers. As the song continues, couples are excused in five-year increments until only three older couples remain. Scott determines the longest married couple by having each couple introduce themselves and state how long they've been married. A round of applause for the longest married couple is followed by Julie and John being invited to dance with the longest married couple. Scott asks the longest married couple to briefly dance with the newest married couple, and to share their secret to their long and happy marriage with Julie and John. The photographs are priceless! ACT VI, Scene 1 As Master of Ceremonies, Scott and Doreen now begin coordinating the "entertainment" part of the wedding reception. Starting with an open dance floor for about 30 minutes, this is the first "break in the action" for Julie and John, and it's VERY appreciated! After some open dancing, Scott announces the Cake Cutting, turning over it's choreography to the photographer, while many of the guests gather around to watch. More open dancing follows, with the music tempo starting to pick up. ACT VI, Scene 2 The final traditional events are the Candy Toss, Bouquet Toss, Garter Removal, and Garter Toss and Scott emcees each of these while Doreen helps to organize the activities. The Candy Toss is for all children aged 12 and under. This allows Julie and John to restrict the Bouquet Toss and Garter Toss to folks who are aged 13 and over. With Julie's and John's approval, a special dance is done to "honor" the Bouquet Catcher and Garter Catcher -- "Strangers in the Night" by Frank Sinatra. ACT VI, Scene 3 With all the traditional activities over, the real party now begins! The dance floor gets hopping with Scott's terrific mix of hits, both old and new, lighting effects are activated, the music volume goes up a little, and the dance floor is open for the rest of the reception. Scott reads the crowd to see what their preferences are and plays a wide variety of everybody's favorite music. The celebration kicks into high gear and continues on into the night! ACT VII, Scene 1 It's almost time for the reception to end. Scott cues up Julie's and John's Last Dance of the Evening, and invites them to come out to the dance floor. Their Last Dance song, "I've Had the Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes begins with Julie and John alone on the dance floor. After the first verse, Scott invites everybody to join them for their Last Dance of the Evening. When the song concludes, one final round of applause for the Julie and John and it's time for their Send Off. Since Julie and John are heading to Las Vegas for their honeymoon, they picked "Viva Las Vegas" by Elvis Presley for their Send Off Song. Rose petals have been provided to be thrown at Julie and John as they exit to their limousine. Everybody lines up outside, final congratulations are given, and Julie and John run through flying rose petals to begin their new life together. Scott and Doreen are getting lots of compliments from the remaining guests as they leave the venue, having enjoyed the best wedding reception they've ever attended. ACT VII, Scene 2 Scott and Doreen begin tearing down the sound and lighting equipment, packing up, moving out, and disappearing into the night long after the guests are gone. They're exhausted but they have smiles on their faces, knowing that they helped make Julie's and John's special day into a treasured memory for all time. ACT VII, Scene 3 Now secure in her limousine with her husband, Julie can finally totally relax and remember all of the happy memories and laughter from a day that she recalls, long ago, having been worried about. How will it go? Will everybody enjoy themselves? Will it all come together as a success? Well, it did! And the memories are all happy ones, because Scott and Doreen helped make it that way!
